Rotomolder and thermoformer MAKS Plastics starts production with plans to expand

MAKS Plastics LLC, a rotational molder and thermoformer in Mishawaka, Ind., just launched in June and already is planning a $5 million equipment expansion.

Founded by CEO Kristian Stankiewicz, the company recently got the OK for tax abatements in exchange for a promise to create 25 jobs by the end of the year. MAKS currently employs 25, counting a few part-timers.

"We plan on having just over 60 employees by the end of the year," and to add 100 more over several years, Stankiewicz said Aug. 24 by email.

The company's 100,000-square-foot plant now houses three Rotoline machines making tanks, outdoor leisure products and furniture. Stankiewicz said he plans to add five more rotomolding machines and an undetermined amount of thermoforming equipment.

"Our vision is for a fast-paced growth," said Stankiewicz, who previously was vice president of manufacturing at Akron, Ohio-based rotomolding giant Myers Industries Inc., and president of its Ameri-Kart Corp. unit.

Asked what prompted him to set out on his own, Stankiewicz said he has "always had an entrepreneurial spirit."

"With some changes in leadership at my last career I knew it was time to step out," he added.
